Walls

So this news just came in:

Google Agrees to Censor Results in China
http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/01/24/D8FBC4C02.html

Of course, having such rosy South African memories I am curious to see just how big the deception is in real terms:

So I do a search on 'falun gong' on www.google.com and then the same search on www.google.cn

Try it for yourself and contrast the result:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=falun+gong&btnG=Google+Search

And:

http://www.google.cn/search?hl=zh-CN&q=falun+gong&btnG=Google+%E6%90%9C%E7%B4%A2&meta=

Interesting huh ?

When information is not only censored but negative views are given the high ranking it goes even further than censorship and into the realm of misinformation.

So much for "organising all the world's information" and so much for "don't be evil"

I'm a bit out of touch with events in the open source search space but expect links to the better search engine alternatives soon... but for starters there is: http://www.mozdex.com/

THAT'S INSANE! I thought Google was run by nice young men who support freedom of speech!

It's like some weird fairy tale, almost impossible to believe. Has our species learnt nothing from the last hundred years?

Almost makes me want to become a revolutionary.
